Dear Diary: When did I get old?, dream job, and alter egos

I can hardly believe my last Dear Diary was back in December!  Where does the time go?

A Publicist no less

January and February have had me twirling and swirling in my new job as Publicist for Moon Books Publishing.  And I can confirm I am having an absolute blast.  Who knew that a new career at the spritely age of 56 could be such fun?  I get to work with the fabulous Trevor and Matty from Moon Books who have both been incredibly patient with me (particularly when I have asked 57 questions on a Monday morning and all before 9am).  What has been wonderful is to be working with all the amazing authors, I get to chat with them one to one, a lot of whom I have admired from afar for a long while and some that I am actually terrified of talking to because they are so amazing (don’t tell them that).  It is an honour to be a part of it all and I hope I am making a difference.

On the home front

In home news, even though we said after the bathroom reno that we would never do any building work again, we have.   Our bedroom is currently being transformed as I write this.  It was much needed as it has been unloved for the past twenty years.  But it has meant we are sleeping on a mattress in the loft and Eric is continuously barking all day at every move, comment or sneeze the builders make.  Thankfully they are incredibly fabulous and don’t mind him being a total pain.

Very exciting news is that Pete and I are going to become first time grandparents in June, our daughter and hubby are expecting a little girl.  We are over the moon ♥

When did I get old?  This question has entered my thoughts on more than one occasion recently.  Perhaps in part to the news of becoming a grandmother, or maybe the appearance of a few wrinkles I didn’t realise I had.  Then the whole pension thing, we have had a lot of pension letters recently asking when we are going to retire – um…unless we win the lottery probably never!  I am also now officially done with the menopause thing (well medically anyway), whilst it is a huge relief after suffering for nearly eight years with the peri menopause ‘gifts’ it now makes me feel older.   Post menopause your skin loses elasticity, your hair thins and your joints ache and any number of other delights – I am trying to remember that growing old is a privilege and one I am very grateful for, it just makes it a bit difficult when your moustache starts to grow…

The Witches Hearth

In Kitchen Witch news, Heather, Ness and I have been out and about on lots of jollies and plenty of plotting, planning and scheming is being done.  The most recent adventure is the launch of our new membership platform The Hearth Witches (think of it as a Patreon) which is run from our forum.  We have had lots of lovely folk sign up already (it is only £2 a month) and it gives access to daily practice prompts, herbal info, seidr, community and behind the scenes with my work in progress  book writing.

Both the Kitchen Witch website and my own have had a makeover, with huge thanks to the very talented artist Tom Brown.  I commissioned Tom to create an image, giving him the bare instruction of ‘three witches and a hearth fire’ – what Tom came up with has blown us away.  Not only do we have the most amazing heart fire, we have the three of us in character, he nailed it!  We have named our alter egos Hemlock, Belladonna and Myrtle.

Book writing continues, albeit incredibly slowly as I have even more ‘other stuff’ I am working on, but I am chipping away at it.   It is still a huge passion and I feel blessed and honoured to be able to do so.  Myself and the team will be at a few events this year, check the website for details.  We also have plans to release some online courses later in the year too, so keep an eye out.  My weekly chats are also continuing every Friday morning and of course the twice monthly Pagan Portal Podcast as well.

The world is a weird place at the moment, hang in there!
