I had seen a few adverts around social media for witchcraft/pagan subscription boxes, some themed to the sabbats, others general monthly boxes. I was intrigued, because who doesn't like getting nice witchy presents through the post?
I decided to order a selection to compare and share my findings and thoughts with you. They are all UK based (although most of them do ship worldwide), I did look at USA based subscriptions (and there are some really brilliant looking ones to try) but unfortunately the cost of shipping was almost as much as the box.
I will be posting a review each week for the next few weeks, in no particular order of favouritism. I don't like writing bad reviews as such, but for something like this I am just presenting to you all the information, you can make your choice from there.
Scent by Mail
Although not technically 'witchy/pagan' I went a bit rogue with this one as it is all about scents and candles. They do three levels of subscription, £15, £20 and £25 but all plus p&p which does bump the price up quite a bit.
Scent Enthusiast - Subscription box price: £20 plus p&p £7.95
Ordered on: 5th October 2018 and it arrived on 8th October. Subscription boxes are sent at the beginning of each month but you can also order a 'one off' for yourself or to send as a gift.
Contents:
A free starter kit which contained: A ceramic wax melt warmer & frosted glass votive holder
A sweet grace scented sachet (115ml)
Yankee candle small jar - calm & quiet place
Yankee candle wax melt - apricot rose
Shearer tin candle - amber noir
Blush lily flame scented candle tin
Overall thoughts:
It was all beautifully packaged.
All the items were of a decent size and extremely good quality.
Retail price of all five items in the standard mid size box come to about £27 so you get what you pay for really. Bonus was the free 'starter kit' - with the mid size box you get the wax warmer and the votive glass, both very nice pieces.
You obviously can't choose which scent you want each month and that's actually part of the idea in that they introduce you to different ones. However the ones I received, with the exception of the amber noir (which was lovely) were all a bit too flowery and sweet for me.
If you love scented candles and want a nice surprise each month then this would be a nice box, not a 'bargain' but you get items to the value you paid.
It would make a really nice gift to send to someone.
